Mountains Plateaus and Plains

A landform is a feature on the earth’s surfaces that is part of the terrain, mountains, hills, plateaus, or plains are the four main types of landforms. Small landforms include hills, canyons, valleys and basins,

The movement of tectonic plates underground can create landforms by extruding mountains and hills. Erosion by water and wind can wear away the land and create landforms such as valleys and canyons. Both processes will take place over a long period of time, sometimes millions of years.

It took 6 million years for the Colorado River to carve out the Grand Canyon in the United States and Arizona. The Grand Canyon is 446 kilometers (277 mi) long.

The highest terrain on Earth is Mount Everest in Nepal. It measures 8,850 meters (29,035 ft) above sea level. It is part of the Himalayan mountain range that passes through several countries in Asia.

Landscapes can exist underwater in the form of mountain ranges and undersea basins. The Mariana Trench is the deepest terrain on Earth in the South Pacific.
